Cam Imodium (taken For Slowing Down Gut) Induce Sleepiness In A 89 Yr Old Male?

my 89 year old father is struggling with hypotension and anemia. He also has an illiostomy and is dumping fluids. partial cause for his low BP. He also is a stage 4 kidney failure. he is in a rehab. following a nasty fall landing on his back and bruising his kidneys. Since the doc started him on Imodium elixir, to slow his gut down to try to absorb more fluid in his sm. bowel, he has just gotten weaker and sleepier. could Imodium be part of the sleepy problem.

Gastroenterologist 's  Response
Hello! Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I am a Gastroenterologist (DM).

Dizziness can occur after taking loperamide but I found it very rarely in my patients. So I will advise you to see for any other cause also before stopping loperamide

I hope I have answered your query and this will help you. If you have any further query I will be happy to answer that too. Remain in touch and get-well soon.
