Broke My Fibula, Had Surgery, Swollen Foot And Toes, Painful Burning Sensation. Reason?

I am 28yrs old and I broke my fibula and had surgery to put seven screws and a plate in my ankle. I've been in a cast for a month. My foot and toes are either very swollen because I rarely have time to elevate my leg or they are not swollen and I have a very painful burning sensation. What could be the cause of this? Thank you!
