Bit By Stray Cat, Started Amoxycillin, Still Hand Swollen. Got A Tetanus Shot, Took Augmentin, Blistering. Suggestions ?

I tried catching a stray cat, she bit and scratched both my hands and let her go....I kept the wounds cleaned covered with band aids and started taking amoxicillin that i had left over but one scratch on my knuckle of my index finger did become infected. About 5 days ago, I went to the er when my handed swelled (cannot close hand all the way) and I started get cold-like symptoms (running nose/cough.) I was ex rayed, got a tetanus shot and given a script for augmentin. The swelling started going away within the first day and my cuts are 99% healed. Yesterday, I swelled again and is very painful in the joint. Today it stayed swollen and started blistering, clear fluid fills it and after popping it, fills it again. The infection seems to be spreading to another cut on my middle finger. I'm not running a fever. I'm not sure if I should go back to the er before I finish the antibiotics. What do you suggest?

Hi,

Thank you for your query.

If the joints are swollen then it has nothing to do with the cat scratch or the antibiotic that you are taking. I suggest that you revisit your doctor and discuss the issue. There could be some other reason for the swelling in the joints.

I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing you an early recovery.
