10 Weeks Ultrasound Showed Twins. In 24 Weeks It Shows Only One Child, Shows Intramural Fibroid Tissue. Problem?

Hello, I am 33years old. I am 26+ weeks pregnant. At 10 weeks I did an ultrasound and saw twins, at 24weeks I went to check for the sex of the baby and there was only a single baby, i did another ultrasound yesterday and got a result of a single baby and a fibroid. "The myometrium is expanded by an intramural fibroid tissue in the posterior wall with an AP diameter of 2.9cm. Please I am confused. What could have led to this and I hope it will disappear. This is my first pregnancy and I intend to take in at least in a years time.

OB & GYN Specialist 's  Response
Hi,
Thank you for choosing Healthcaremagic. Kindly do not worry, its not a worrying thing. Usually in twin pregnancies, sometimes there will be disappearance of one foetus, scientifically it is known as VANISHING TWIN. Its absolutely a normal phenomenon if happens in very early pregnancy, like in your case.
And regarding your fibroid, its too small to cause any problem. So just do not worry. All the best.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you. In case of any doubt, I will be available for follow-ups. If you like my answers kindly rate it, and write a review as well. Please do not forget to accept it.
Thank you,
Wish you good health.
Regards,
Dr Arif

Infertility Specialist Dr. Mahesh Koregol's  Response
Hi,

Thanks for your query. I read your query and I understand your concerns.
Following is my reply:

1) The first scan if accurate and now only one baby means a entity called vanishing twin

2) In vanishing twin, one baby dies off soon and vanishes away. Its normal.

3) Dont worry about small fibroids. They generally dont cause any harm.

Let me know if you have anymore doubts.
