Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi there,

Thank you for choosing HCM for your query.
Will be glad to help.

As you mentioned that your 1 month old granddaughter has developed a cold, cough and is congested and she probably has the similar viral illness that her mother has.

I would suggest that you suction her nose with a nasal aspirator, and you can use a nasal saline spray to moisten her nose just before suctioning, as often about every 2-3 hours. You can do that especially before every feed, to make it easier for her to feed.

Also, monitor her for fever, her cough getting worse, if she is breathing hard or fast, or if she is feeding poorly and her urine out is dropping, then take her to her pediatrician immediately without delay if any of the above signs develop.

Make sure you are using good hand hygiene with her, since she is a premie, she is more prone to develop infections.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Dr. Sumeet.
