What Is Causing Heavy Bleeding After Terminating Pregnancy?
Question: Hello Doctor, My wife was 10 days pregnant & since we already have two kids so we decided to terminate the pregnancy. We consulted the Gynaecologist & she recommended two doses of M pill in duration of 3 days for medically terminating the pregnancy. After taking the tables my wife had a heavy bleeding for 4-6 days & normal bleeding for next 15 days.We went for ultrasound and the reports shows some retained products of conception and a right ovarian hemorrhagic cyst. After showing the report to gynae she gave Gynaset tablets (3x3) days. Two days after taking the tablets very heavy bleeding started with 25 to 30 blood clots per day ( size around 2 to 3 cm) it is continuing for last 5 days. Doctor has again suggested tablet Trapic MF , my wife has already taken 3 doses in last 1 day but we have not seen any improvement .We both are too worried. Kindly suggest. Thanks AG

Thanks for the query.
As your wife is having retained products of conception the bleeding will not stop until those retained products are removed from the uterus.
To control the blood loss the uterus has to get retracted but when it is having retained products inside it cannot retract.
The gynaset tablets contain progesterone and trapic MF contains tranaxamic acid and mefanamic acid which can control the bleeding in case of hormonal imbalance or menorrhagea etc but they will not help in removal of products.
So now the better option is undergoing D&C(Dilatation and Curettage) by which the retained products can be removed from uterus and the uterus can retract.
You discuss this with your doctor and go for D&C as early as possible because already your wife last large quantity of blood.
After undergoing D&C, trapic mf can be used for 2 to 3 days as at that time the tablets can control the little amount of bleeding from scrapped endometrium.
