What Is Duphaston Prescribed For?

default
Posted on Fri, 10 Jun 2016
Question: I normally have ovulation pain but this month i dint had any pain and morover i am feeling heaviness in lower abdomen so went for ultrasound. Dr said there is no dominant follicle and no corpus leuteum seen. Thickness is 13. She suggested duphastone 10mg twice a day for 5 days. She also said maybe no ovulation has taken place. My doubt is if no ovulation hs taken place then why duphastone is suggested i think duphastone is synthetic progestrone to support pregnancy.

Brief Answer:
Duphaston might be given to induce an early period.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Since there was no dominant follicle, and no corpus luteum, it is very probable that you are not having ovulation this month.
Duphaston twice a day is given to induce a period in all probability.
Since the lining of the uterus is 13 mm, which is quite thick, Duphaston is given to induce a period.
Do you have regular periods normally ?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Take care.

Brief Answer:
As below

Detailed Answer:
With PCOD, there is baseline hormonal imbalance, so it is possible that you may not ovulate in some cycles.
Do not worry, it is part and parcel of PCOS.
Some cycles maybe anovulatory.
Take care.
