Can Menstruation Occur Along With Symptoms Of Menopause?

default
Posted on Fri, 10 Nov 2017
Question: Hello, I'm 52 years old in 2014 I went through IVF, shots, etc.. I did not get pregnant so I stopped..., shortly after I had stopped having my menstral cycle regular & they were extremely light...
Although, I was having PMS prior to at the same time each month.
At that time an OBGYN Assistant believed I was starting menopause..
I was prescribed Progestrone 100mg & Estrodial .05mg to take at bedtime.

However, I have continued having signs of PMS each month. This month I had the feeling of PMS more strongly & I am now having what seems to be & feel like a heavy period... As previously when I was having a normal period, since starting yesterday, my symptoms of PMS are subsiding except some lower-back ache & light cramping. I was also extremely tired this past week, which was also normal for me prior to the menopause?
I never had issues w/my menstral cycle due to taking a low dose birth control pill. I have had 2- children, no problems, normal pregnancies...

I actually Feel as though I'm having a normal period with just strong PMS symptoms....5
Is it common to still actual menstrate at this time?
Or could have I been wrong about starting menopause?
I did have plenty of eggs.

Thank you

Detailed Answer:
Hello mam,
Thanks for trusting hcm about your health care.
I have gone through your history and try to understand your concerns.
Menopause is usually occurs between 45-55 yrs.of age and it is complete cessation of menstruation for one year( no period for one year).
There is a stage 2-3 yrs.before ( in some women it can be more or less) menopause which we called perimenpausal stage in which irregular period cycle may occur.
In your case as you are having normal menstrual cycles (since beginning)on regular intervals,it is considered as a normal period cycle.
Yes,some women may have normal period at your age.
Menstrual cycle usually depends upon your maternal side.
Hope found useful, feel free to ask more information.
