What Does This Thyroid Test Indicate?

Question: I got my thyroid test done and report are as following T3 : 114 T4 : 8.9 TSH : 10.54 Got it retested to confirm and TSH level came as 8.78 Kindly provide the medication for the same and what are do's and dont's to avoid further rise in TSH

Detailed Answer: dear ma'm, hi! as per your reports you are primary hypothyroid and also have some iron deficiency. you must start with thyroxine replacement by 1 mcg per kg per day the tablet needs to be taken early morning empty stomach. observe another thirty minutes fast after the tablet. recheck your thyroid status after 6 weeks and let me know the results. other do' sand dont's are not much. see that you have a regular lifestyle. dietary restriction as not to put on weight and exercise to keep you fit. regards!

Thanks Doctor, I didn't understand this "you must start with thyroxine replacement by 1 mcg per kg per day"? 1mcg/kg means .if my body weight is 70 then I should have 70mcg?

Brief Answer: Yes precisely it means that. Detailed Answer: dear ma'm, the dosage to start is like that. but we round it off to market available preparations. for eg if you are 70 kg then the dose for you to start with will be 75 mcg tab per day early morning empty stomach. regards !
