What Does My HSG Test Result Indicate?

Posted on Thu, 7 Apr 2016
Question: Hi My wife HSG report outcome says she has unicornuate uterus.

As per Follicular Maturation Studies her ET size on Day 12 is 4.3mm and on Day 16 is 6.5mm. Our next consultation is on Day 19th. I couldn't understand the report much in detail, what should be the normal ET size for ovulation to occur? Is it ok to continue natural way to get pregnant or shall we approach IUI or IVF?

Can you also let me know whether it is easy or bit complicated to get her pregnant with Unicornuate uterus?

Brief Answer:
Pregnancy in unicornuate uterus is complicated

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
ET should be more than 6 mm for conception to occur.
The follicular study still do not show any dominant follicle or ovulation.
If the ovulation do not occurs, then she can go for ovulation induction or IUI.
Chances of conception are bit low in unicornuate uterus, and when pregnancy occurs, complications like preterm labour, growth restriction, abnormal fetal presentation are common.
Hope you found the answer helpful.

Hi Madam,

Thanks for your prompt reply. Have you gone through all the reports which I have attached? As per the HSG report they have mentioned as " Uterus is normal in size, shape, and position, being of Unicornuate variety. So this confirms the uterus is Unicornuate right?

As you said Pregnancy in Unicornuate uterus is complicated then can you please let me know what will be the success rate if I take IUI or IVF?

Thanks XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Slightly decreased success rate

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I had reviewed all the reports.
It seems to be unicornuate uterus, however it can be confirmed by a pelvic MRI.
Success rate with IVF or IUI is slightly less than normal uterus, however exact incidence is not known .
