What Causes Weight Gain After Child Birth?
Question: Sir ,
I have one child his age is 5.5years..(birth march2010)on the 2009 my report reflate THS 6.43..but doctor don't give any medicine during my pregnancy..after delivery my weight is increasing that's why i consult M.D. docotor in 2012 for THS at that time my THS is 4.79.He suggest that reduce your weight i reduse my weight also..now i am again pregnent and my THS level is 6.24. I am requesting you to please suggest me that i have to take any medicine. Some one told me that it is happen in only pregnancy due to hormonal changes. This month 25 is my due date..so 1 month pregnancy is with me that we confirm from our gynecologist. kindly suggest me...

Welcome to HCM. I have gone through the question and understand your concerns.
This is not a hormonal change in pregnancy - usually in pregnancy your TSH will be low due to effect of pregnancy hormones.
The TSH in pregnancy has to be below 3 miu/ml. So your TSH is slightly above that. You need to be on thyroid hormone replacement- usual dose is thyroxine 25 mcg daily. Please consult a physician or endocrinologist.

You have only a small decrease in thyroid gland function- sub clinical hypothyroidism.
This need to be treated in pregnancy.
After delivery we can re evaluate thyroid gland function with additional tests like anti thyroid peroxide (TPO) antibodies and serum cholesterol.
In non pregnant we treat only when TSH is more than 10 or if TSH is more than 5 and antibodies or cholesterol are high.
