What Causes Vaginal Bleeding After D&C Partial Removal Of A Polyp?
Question: 71 years old - such had a D&C partial removal of a polyp 70% gone - still spotting after a week and half - will the polyp still grow and will I have spotting down the road. Should I have had my uterus removed - everything was beign

I had a professor who used to say when it comes to the uterus bad things bleed but not all bleeding is bad.
I do not recommend that you have your uterus removed which is major surgery. However, if the bleeding persists then I would recommend either an office or outpatient procedure to remove the rest of the polyp in order to stop it totally. At 71 you do not need to be buying feminine hygiene products. It is possible with removal of the majority of the polyp the rest will just regress and go away. This can be followed by ultrasound and by your symptoms. Give it a few more weeks. If it hasn't completely resolved by 4 to 6 weeks or starts to get worse that I think you are going to need a second procedure. Again I would not take on the risks of the major surgery is a simple outpatient procedure is likely to solve the problem at any age.
