What Causes The Difficulty In Completing A Sentence While Speaking?

default
Posted on Tue, 9 May 2017
Question: For the past 8 or 9 months I have a problem finishing a sentence. The words get
stammered and I can't finish. It must be obvious to my children & friends but no one
has said anything. We just change the subject and go on. I worry that it could be the
start of something like dementia.

Brief Answer:
Consultation

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.

This may indicate a neurological problem. What you need to do is visit a neurologist for a full physical and neurological exam. This will include a dementia screening tool such as the Montreal Cognitive Assessment. You may also need imaging such as an MRI of the brain. This diagnostic workup will help uncover the reason for your difficulty finishing sentences.
