Posted on Thu, 9 Jun 2016
Question: Hi. I was woken last night with severe stomach cramps. They stay for a while then go then come back. My lower back around my kidneys is also aching. I have been urinating & using my bowels a it and feel better after it but the pain comes back. It's like a strong stabbing pains and twisting pain. I am also passing a lot of wind. EThe cramps feel like sever period pain, but have gone through menopause. Should I worry or is it a stomach bug.

Brief Answer:
Acid Peptic Disease v/s Renal Colic

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thank you for getting back with the answers. Probable diagnosis from your symptoms could be Acid Peptic Disease & Renal Colic. If i were your treating doctor then i would have advised following things:

- sucralfate suspension thrice a day for 10 days
- Ultrasound KUB for checking the status of kidneys, ureter & bladder.

- take small frequent meals.
- take 30-45mins walk/exercise daily in the evening. It will make you fresh, healthy and is good for digestion.
- Don't lie down immediately after taking meal
- Eat a diet rich in fiber, especially from fruits and vegetables

> AVOID:
fatty & oily food.
spices
heavy meals at night
carbonated & caffeine drinks
chocolates

Hopefully you will see improvement in 1-2 days BUT if condition remains same or aggravates then you need to visit hospital for further workup.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
Wishing you good health !!
