Question: Hi
I am currently taking mefenamic acid one tablets three times a day 500mg a day, norethisterone 5 mg 2x three times a day and tranexamic acid 500mg 2 tablets three times a day after prolonged periods.
I have really bad intermittent pain that shoots down my legs and is so bad I can't move, like worst period pain but comes in waves. Also I have started Heavy bleeding.
I am seeing gyno on Wednesday previous scan showed enlarged womb and other bits were wrong. Eventually they are going to to a hystercopy and fit a coil. But I just need to know should I be worried about this bleeding and pain.

Brief Answer:
Dysfunctional uterine bleeding

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand the concerns .
Heavy and prolonged periods in 45-50years of age is usually due to the hormonal imbalance known as dysfunctional uterine bleeding.
Medical management including tranexemic acid, mefenamic acid and norethisterone is the first line of management.
If not treated, then hysterosopy should be done and mirena coil is helpful.
If not yet treatment, then hysterectomy is the definitive answer.
There is no need to worry excessively for pain and bleeding, as this is a common disorder in this age group.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
