What Causes Severe Headaches Every Morning, Right Eye Pain, Nausea And Upset Stomach?

Posted on Tue, 2 Jun 2015
Question: I have severe headaches everyday, especially in the morning. The symptoms include awful pain on the right side of my head especially behind my right eye. I can hardly stand to have the lights on so I wear my sunglasses most of the time. I get an upset stomach
( nauseues). I have taken Excedrin, Advil, Tylenol, with absolutely "No" help or relief from the pain. I have even taken Norco which will give me some relief for about (3) hours. I need some relief and help ASAP. The pain really interferes with my daily life.
Thank-You XXXX. Age (64) XXXX.

Brief Answer:
Probably Cluster headaches.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Your symptoms are more consistent with a condition such Cluster headache.

However, there are some other things needed to be clarified about your concerns such: are headaches worsen in laying or standing position? are headaches accompanied by eye redness, stiff nose?
did you experienced previous years such headaches and Howe long they lasted?are headaches worsening during cough or straining? any other neurologic symptoms such legs, arms weakness, numbness?

Another thing to be evaluated as a possible cause of your symptoms is Chiari malformation. I read your previous queries and learned that you had done a CT scan, did you had done a brain MRI before?

If not, then in my opinion there is need for MRI in order to evaluate/exclude other causes your symptoms, besides Cluster headaches.

Treatment of Cluster headache consists on using Triptans ( Sumatriptan eg.) or Dyhidroergotamibe during crisis and prevention drugs such Verapamil, for long term treatment.

Since these are prescription drugs, I suggest you to discuss with your treating Doctor about dosage, precautions and methods of use.

Hope I helped you. I remain at your disposal for further questions or clarifications.

Wishing you good health.
