Suggest Treatment For Chronic Migraine

Hi, I am 23 and have been a choronic migraine sufferer since I was 12.. I get them very often.. I am on Imitrex, Depakote ER, and Zoniisamide for my migraines... I have been hospitalized a few times for these.. I have had a constant migraine for 12 days now with nausea and vomiting and i have become very fatique and worn down... I have been takin all of my meds and iv even tried excedrin migraine.. I see a neurology team as well.. but they usually hook me up to a DHC drip which sometimes causes me complications bc i have a few heart issues as well...any advice on how to calm the migraine?

Hello,

To get rid of your symptoms you should make sure your vitals, body electrolyte level, blood glucose, are normal. Maintain your sodium-potassium level, take water, juice, soups, ORS. Your blood glucose level and blood pressure should be normal. Take warm bath from head to toe regularly, sometimes twice daily. Stay away from stressful (emotional and physical) lifestyle and anxiety.

Avoid strong smell, strong lights, exposure to direct sunlight, untimely food, never skip meals, avoid gastritis. Stay in dim light, apply hot/cold compress, which ever suits you better. Taking caffeine will help reduce migraine. You can take the medicine prescribed by your treating doctor. You can take sumatriptan (Imitrex, Tosymra), one stat when needed after food. Avoid constipation, stay well hydrated. Take fiber rich food. Take laxatives at bed time. Stay away from addictions if any.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
