What Causes Severe Cramps And Unusually Heavy Menstrual Bleeding Along With Big Clots?

default
Posted on Fri, 18 Dec 2015
Question: I started my period yesterday it was heavy as normal then today it just stopped. Alot of cramping which is unusual for me. Then I went bathroom and pain was awful I sort of felt need to bare down. Big clot came out and some clear weird stuff then blood came flowing behind it. I know my cervical opening is very small and hard due to cancer cells removed years ago. Could my period actually get plugged is that a thing?? Just want to check and make sure this is not something to worry about?

Brief Answer:
Pelvic examination advised

Detailed Answer:
Hello madam, thanks for trusting health care magic.
As per your history it seems like that there was some clot struck at your cervical opening which is narrow and since the blood got pent up inside, uterus tried to expel it by I initiation of strong contractions.
Contractions were felt as cramps and they lead to expulsion of the clot and the pent up blood.
But since you had a surgery for cancer cells and you are 40 years in age you need to take it seriously and get a pelvic examination done in coming month so as to see if there was any other reason for that incident.
Take care
Regards
Dr Manisha
