What Causes Pain In Groin Area After A Transvaginal Ultrasound?

default
Posted on Tue, 16 Sep 2014
Question: This question is for a gyno. Thank you.

Hello. I had a Transvaginal Ultrasound yesterday to look at my ovaries as I have a 2cm cyst on my right where i have been getting pain off and on but for some reason when she finished, I had a really bad cramp/burning type pain in my groin area on my left side and I never had any pain on my left side ever, just the right side?
All last night I had a dull burning, pulled muscle type feeling in my left groin area.
Today it feels like I have a pulled muscle in my left side groin, and it feels like a pulled muscle going down the back of my left leg.
Could she have tweaked a muscle or nerve when she was inside me as she did look at both left and right ovaries?
If so, is there anything i can do or will it just resolve in time?
Coudl it be some kind of spasm?
Is this normal to have after on of these?
Im kind of freaked out, never had any issue on that side and now whats going on?
Also when I sit down it kind of bothers that area, left groin area all along it.
I am not sexually active right now, maybe things were tighter than normal (have not been sexually active in 2 years?)
But what do you think i causing the pain to radiate down my leg, like a pulled muscle feeling?
Thank you for your help with this. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Ovary pain

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

The cyst in ovary could be a corpus luteum cyst if you are in second half of your cycle. This is normal and not to worry about it.

The ovary is a sensitive organ which pains when pressure is used ( while ultrasound in your case). This pain might continue for a day. This is normal and not to worry about it.

If you are in middle of your cycle this could also be ovulation pain.

It does not appear like a pulled muscle and should subside in a day or two.

Regards

Hey.
I went back to my gyno today to get the results of my transvaginal ultrasound and it turned out the cyst must have ruptured last week when I had the really bad pain that made me go on Friday to get the follow up sonogram done as she said the 3cm cyst I had 3 weeks ago was gone and no other cysts seen on either ovary.
I told her I have a feeling of like a pulled groin muscle and when I pooped the last two days I felt a little pinch in my lower left side just above the groin and then got a nerve feeling that ran down the back of my leg to my lower left angle (nerve I guess) and she said maybe my decending colon got tweaked by the sonogram and a nerve attached to it was getting irritated?
That may be true but when I sat on a hard wood chair before I got really bad acting up of soarness and pulled groin muscle feeling again.
Also went for a walk before and felt it along my left groin and under neath along vagina groin area.
Could the transvaginal have tweeked my groin muscles and or a nerve along the left side of my vagina that goes up to my descending colon perhaps and all these nerves and muscles got aggrivated from the transvaginal sonogram or the actual instrument she inserts inside hitting up against my inner vagina wall on the left side?
Its really annoying and I'm not sure what to do? Is there anything i can do to help it? Or anything I should avoid doing to not make it worse? Its already been 3 days since the ultrasound?

Brief Answer:
Yes

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thats what I had told you previously about the cause pain.

As your doctor said it is due to the irritation of nerves around ovary inturn possible pressure on descending colon nerves.

If it's not severe, I would only suggest you to wait. Avoid walking for prolonged period or exercise too much for next 3 days. This will reduce pain.
