default
Posted on Tue, 16 Jun 2015
Question: I am a 67 year old female. I have pretty consistent calf discomfort, more ache than pain in both legs. Sometimes I also have discomfort behind my knee(s). I have no redness or swelling. I'm otherwise in good health. I have tested negative for MS, rheumatoid factor, autoimmune disease and thyroid issues. My sed rate is 22.

I would appreciate any ideas you have. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Could be due to Nerve Compression.

Detailed Answer:
HI

Greetings from Dr.Divakara.P
Thanks for posting your query.

. I need to know since how long you are having this pain?
Was there any kind of trauma to back or legs ?

Well I can think of two conditions that can explain your pain and discomfort.

1. Low blood flow to legs : Either due to blockage in arteries or veins.
2. Nerve compression at your low back level.

In this regard I advise two scanning for you.

1. Arterial and Venous Doppler of both legs.
2. MRI lumbar Spine.

Kindly revert back with the scan reports.

Hope this information was useful to you.
Any clarifications feel free to ask .

Brief Answer:
Could be due to Calcium Deficiency.

Detailed Answer:
HI

Thanks for the information.

2 weeks is a short duration. Most of the Nerve compression pain will be there for months but still it can't be ruled out.

One more possibility is Calcium+ Vitamin D deficiency. You can either get Serum Vitamin D3 levels checked or get a prescription for Calcium ad vitamin D and start using it . If you kind a good improvement it proves deficiency . In that case you can continue it for 3-4 months.

But if no improvement then you can get the scan done and revert back to me .

Also do stretching exercise like Trying to touch your feet from your fingers without folding your knee joint.

Hope this information was useful to you.
