What Causes Menstrual Bleeding During Perimenopause?
Question: I did not have my period for the last 6 months (i am 56) but they started again last thursday and are still going! is this a worry?

You are in perimenopause .
Perimenopause, or menopause transition, is the stage of a woman's reproductive life that begins several years before menopause, when the ovaries gradually begin to produce less estrogen.
Perimenopause lasts up until menopause, the point when the ovaries stop releasing eggs.
Perimenopause ends the first year after menopause (when a woman has gone 12 months without having her period).
Irregular periods are common and normal during perimenopause.
But other conditions can cause abnormalities in menstrual bleeding in your stage such as:
fibroids,
polyps,
endometrial atrophia,
endometrial hyperplasia
and rarely cancer.
Please get a check up to exclude any other causes of your bleeding.
To diagnose the cause of abnormal perimenopausal bleeding your health care provider will review your personal and family health history.
