What Causes Itching On Arms, Legs And Abdomen During 9th Month Of Pregnancy?

default
Posted on Thu, 7 Jan 2016
Question: My wife is 37+3 weeks pregnant. She has moderate, sometimes severe, itching since about 30 weeks of pregnancy. Itching is mostly on arms, legs and tummy. Soles and palm itch as well. Itching tends to increase in the evening. Her gynaecologist said it could be due to hormones. Based on another opinion we got an LFT today. SGOT is 32 and SGPT is 57. Does this indicate obstetric cholestasis? If so, what course of action do you suggest?

Brief Answer:
Obstetric cholestasis

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
The levels of SGOT and SGPT of your wife are above the normal range for pregnancy.
If associated with itching, then it is indicative of obstetric cholestasis.
She should take udiliv for obstetric cholestasis, get the biophysical profile by ultrasound and NST done every 3 days to assess the fetal well being.
She should keep a count of fetal movements.
If total number of movements are less than12, then she should consult her OBGYN specialist immediately.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
