What Causes Itching, Discharge And Bumps Around The Vagina?

default
Posted on Mon, 23 May 2016
Question: Hello. I have been experiencing itching in and around my vagina and irration of my vulva. I originally thought this was thrush so I took an oral treatment and used an internal cream. This eases my symptoms for a day but then they returned. My vagina is slick with discharge but this does not smell and does not resemble cottage cheese. It is just a little milky. It is mainly the itching that is getting to me as it is painful, annoying and disturbs my sleep. In addition, today I felt a few raised bumps (they felt more like squiggles) inside my vagina that were not there before. These bumps are very itchy and very sensitive - trying to feel one to see if I could tell what it was resulted in irritation and bleeding. What could this be? I realise that I should go to my GP but I am not at all comfortable with internal examinations. I should also mention that I have only had sex once a few years ago and that I am asexual

Brief Answer:
Most likely is still thrush

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

Sometimes women get vaginal candidiasis that is somewhat resistant to the quick typical treatments. So we use different regimens of longer treatment with same or different anticandida medications.

I am thinking this may still be a yeast infection given that you said the treatment helps temporarily.

One treatment that can be especially effective for yeast infections that are somewhat resistant are Boric Acid vaginal suppositories. These are 600 mg of boric acid in a gelatin capsule. They are used as 1 capsule in the vagina at bedtime for 2 weeks.

If this does not work, I recommend you go in to see your doctor and have the discharge swabbed and sent for culture to know decisively what is going on.

I hope this information helps. Please let me know if I can provide further information or clarification.
