What Causes Heavy And Painful Periods After Child Birth?

default
Posted on Wed, 17 Sep 2014
Question: Hi there, I really need some advice in regards to my periods. I have a 2 year old son and since he was born I have been experiencing heavy and very painful periods. In the past I have always has regular and trouble free periods so the change had been difficulty. My Dr prescribed rigevidon contraception pill which made my PMT worse so after 2 weeks I felt I could no longer take it. I am now 3 days late for my period ( not pregnant) and I have been experiencing terrible PMT for the last 2 weeks as well as period pain type cramps. Can you advice on what is happening and what could be a well tolerated approach in controlling my PMT and the associated pain I get? Also, could taking the pill for just 2 weeks have an effect on my cycle? Why am I having period pain for 2 weeks but no period ?
Any advice would be much appreciated. I was also prescribed a medication to help with the period pain which also works by reducing the flow - mefenamic acid. I have experienced large blood clots whilst taking this - is that normal ?

Brief Answer:
Ultrasound scan

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Welcome to healthcare magic.

1. The pills you have taken has nothing to do with this. They cant worsen pain to this extent.

2. This PMT with clot needs evaluation by transvaginal ultrasound scan.

3. There is possibility of fibroid or endometriosis affecting as you are describing.

4. Please get an ultrasound scan done to check the fibroid, endometriosis and endometrial thickness.

Let me know if you have any more questions.
