Brief Answer:
Stop vitamin D or take it at evening

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

Thanks for writing to us.

Sleepiness can be due to lack of sleep at night, medication or stress.

If you do not have any type of stress and you are getting enough sleep of 6-8 hours daily at night medication is likely responsible for your problem.

Vitamin D sometime causes drowsiness or sleepiness.

If you are taking it in morning you can shift to evening dose.

Let me know your vitamin D report. When there is deficiency then only need of supplements. If you do not have deficiency no need of vitamin D supplements.

With this information revert back to me about your sleeping hours, stress if any and details about vitamin D report and dose.

Regards,
Dr.Chintan Solanki.

Hello Dr XXXXXXX

I have the vitamin D deficiency the nominal percent is 30% and i had vitamin D around 22 % or 23%.

I take the vitamin D supplement in the night only once in a week.
my sleeping hours is from 11.30 in the night to 6am in the morning. I get sound sleep some days and few days I will have to get up in between. I have got married recently and getting adjusted to the new house I do not know if this is the cause of the stress.

I am a working woman handling house and office. I am still not able to figure out the reason for my sleepiness or drowsiness in office. My doctor had suggested me to take the vitamin D supplement for 10 weeks one tablet in a week, that course is almost getting over now.

I also take D500Cal as a calcium supplement in the night, could this create any problem?
I am as well obese (I am 90 Kg's and my height is 5.1feet) from past many years and it was not a problem until a year or ago, from past one and half years i have this problem of morning drowsiness.

Apart from the calcium tablet I do not take any other medications.

What are the other areas which could cause me this morning drowsiness?

Is the obesity also creating morning sleep ?

Regards,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
obesity, marriage and sleep diturbance at night are likely responsible

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for information.

90 kg weight with 5.1 feet height means 37 BMI(body mass index). This is quite high and obesity grade 2 is there.
Obese persons in general require more sleep around 8 hours. Obesity can cause sleep apnea that in turn leads to sleep disturbance at night which ultimately causes daytime sleepiness. Overall obese people are not fresh and energetic at work in relation to person with normal weight. Obesity is one of the biggest risk factors for hypertension, diabetes and many health problems. So you need to reduce your weight for improvement in your sleep problem as well as to prevent future health hazards.

Marriage itself is a big stress. Many females take time to adjust at new place with new persons and environment. You may be having overall more stress being working woman. However for your disturbance in sleep stress is responsible or not that requires detail evaluation.

You sometime do not get enough sleep at night. This sleep problem in long run causes sleep deficit which in turn leads to daytime drowsiness.

I suggest going for thyroid and Vitamin B12 check up if they are not done.

Following are recommendation to treat your problem:

- Consult dietician: you need to reduce weight. Regular exercise and proper diet is needed to lose weight in controlled manner as well as to prevent weight gain.

- Follow sleep hygiene: Increase your sleeping duration more for 1 hour for a while. To get good sleep at night check this link and follow the measures:
sleepfoundation.org/ask-the-expert/sleep-hygiene

- Do not take heavy meal at a time. Split meals in 4 to 5 sessions.

- If you feel any stress that is disturbing your life, consult psychiatrist for counseling and time management.

- With above measures if you still feel sleepy at daytime, sleep disorder like narcolepsy should be ruled out.

Hope this answers your concern.

Feel free to discuss further.

Brief Answer:
you need detail counselling, I am highlighting important points

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

Thanks for information. It is good that there is no specific abnormality.

The most important point is reducing weight. Obesity is root of many problems.
An important factor behind obesity is stress. For stress reduction time and relationship management are important aspects. It requires lot of discussion and few sessions. You need to consult psychiatrist/psychologist personally for the same. I will try my best to narrate important points in general.

Relationship after marriage with husband and in laws is very big stress for any woman. It take 6 months to 2 years for a lady to accept new family completely. Handling such relationship depends on various factors. Social, educational and economic background and nature of husband and in laws are factors which affect mutual relationship. I need to know nature of all to give you specific tips.
In general
- Do not be angry ever.

- Whatever you want to express, say in peaceful manner.

- Never compare any aspect of husband or anything else with others.

- Try to solve issue with discussion preferably in family meeting.

- Do your duties with your best efforts, if you cannot do something learn to say 'No'.

- Never keep any grudges against anyone in your mind, express your thoughts-opinion in polite manner.

To balance between home and office the most important aspect is support of husband and family members.

- Spare time for yourself for relaxation and exercise

- Make list of your activities/tasks and duties. Make schedule and try to follow the same. Check that which activities/work are less important and can be avoided, which can be done by any of the family members.

Check the below mentioned link of Wikipedia. I find it good for different time management approaches. Hope you will find some help through it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_management

Time management is very individual aspect. And it also requires personal discussion.

From history I suggest to visit psychiatrist/psychologist personally for stress reduction.Prevention is better than cure.

All the best and take care.
