What Causes Delayed Periods?

default
Posted on Sat, 22 Nov 2014
Question: Hi,

I am 28 years old. I am planning for a baby from the past 2 months. I got my periods on 1st Oct, 2014 this time. I might have ovulated before 12th beacuse i was checking for ovulation using a test kit at home from 12th to 18th and it showed negative always.

My cycle is generally 25-26 days. This month i29 days are over but i have still not got my periods. I tested for preganancy using a home test kit and the results are negative. But i havent got my periods yet. I do not have any symptoms of pregnancy either.

Can you please tell me if there are changes that i might have conceived this month?

Thanks.

Brief Answer:
May be you are pregnant this month.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing to us about it.

I can understand your concern, though.

The probabilities of pregnancy are there in your case in this month but there are other reasons for delayed menses.

Usually for best results home urine pregnancy test should be performed after 7 days of your missed period.

In your case your LMP was on 1 October and expected date of your period is 26-27, today is 29th so you are only 2-3 days overdue. (The test result may be false negative).

Then to confirm the pregnancy, you should repeat your home urine pregnancy test after 5-6 days.

If test results will be negative the chances of pregnancy are very less.

Then you should confer with your treating doctor and get your pelvic ultrasound test done to see the cause of delayed period.

Hope it is helpful, feel free to ask more questions.

Good luck.
Regards

Hi,

Thanks for writing to us about it.

I can understand your concern, though.

There are so many reasons for your symptoms.

The most common reasons are hormonal imbalance, delayed period, PCOD, infection (STD), PID and cervical cancer (less chances in your case) and birth control pill.

You should consult a gynecologist and get yourself examined and rule out the cause of your trouble.

If you have blood in urine you should confer with a urologist for it because it can be due to urinary tract infection, stone and scarring after C-section.

Hope it is of some help, feel free to ask more.

Good luck.

ESZINE
Cetirizine dihydrochloride IP 10mg

Brief Answer:
No it will not affect your menstrual cycle.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Nice to hear from you again.

I am also guessing that it is cetirizine but I want to confirm it before giving my opinion about it.

It causes no effect on ovulation and menstruation.

It simply makes the mucous membrane dryer so it may also affect the mucous membrane of the cervix and make secretions thick and scanty.

Hope it is useful, feel free to ask more.

Good luck.
