Brief Answer:
delayed periods might be due to hormonal imbalance

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,welcome to healthcare magic.

I understand your concern.

In my opinion delayed period with negative pregnancy test suggests hormonal imbalance like overweight, polycystic ovarian disease(PCOD),thyroid hormone abnormalities and others.
If your cycles have been irregular from a past few months then I suggest you to consult a doctor as you might need an ultrasound to rule out PCOD,hormonal estimations like thyroid. Dont worry if any abnormality found with apt treatment it might revert to normal like thyroid supplementation in hypothyroidism and hormonal therapy in PCOD.

Weight is most important in deciding the regularity of periods. As you said you are overweight ,it causes hormonal imbalance leading to PCOD .
So weight reduction is first and most important thing. So try to decrease your weight by doing exercise daily.Avoid junk and high calorie food.Include fresh veggies and fruits in diet.Even 10% loss of weight shows much difference making the cycles regular.

If the delayed period is first time and all your past cycles are regular then stress also might be the cause.Sometime stress regarding anything also delays period due to hormonal imbalance.
Dont worry due to change in lifestyle the irregular periods are routinely seen these days.By adopting healthy lifestyle you can modify them.

Hope this satisfies your query.
