Brief Answer:
likely threatened abortion unless proven otherwise...explained

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
thanks for the query to hcm,
Any form of bleeding during early pregnancy should be investigated and should be termed as threatened abortion unless proven otherwise. Its wise on part of the doctor to have ruled out local causes of likely bleeding like cervical erosions, UTI, infections but what would have bene important is to perform a transvaginal ultrasound for ruling out and retroplacental bleeding or clots formation which may indicate separation of placenta and can be the possible cause of bleeding. Nevertheless this may also be due to luteal phase defect due to progesterone deficiency so whatever may be the reason investigated, in either case you should be starting on pro gestational support for stabilizing and supporting the pregnancy with 200mg micronised progesterone daily intake either orally or vaginally till 14 weeks of pregnancy.
If the ultrasound is normal then observation till 14 weeks would be ideal with folic acid and progesterones continued through out.
You may discuss the options with your physician and take an informed decision.
