What Causes Bloating And Abdominal Cramps After Stopping Birth Control Pills?

Posted on Tue, 25 Nov 2014
Question: Hi there. I recently stopped my birth control after taking it for 10 years in order to try to get pregnant. The first day of my last period was on 10/17. I should have started my new pack of birth control on 10/19. I have been having bloating, gas, slight mood swings, and cramps in my lower abd. I have taken two ovulation tests and both are negative. I have kept track of my temperatures (basal) and have not noticed any spikes. however, this is my first month checking them. I am taking Prenatals right now, so that may be what is causing the gas. I noticed tonight that I have, pardon the graphic description, snot like mucus with a bloody tinge. Am I ovulating already?! Am I at a good place to get pregnant now? According to my period app, my peak ovulation day is 10/31. I have no other health conditions going on at this time. What is this thick mucus? I have not been intimate in a few days so there should be no trauma. My periods have always came on time and have been normal, even before birth control. I have never had children and am in a monogamous relationship

I can understand your concern, though.

- Is discharge associated with itching or any odor?

Hope to hearing from you soon.

Good luck.

There is no odor, itching or signs of infection with it. It looks like when you crack open a egg and the white of it is still cold as you separate it from the yolk. No fevers or malaise either. The picture I sent is the closest thing I could find that looked like it, except mine was less yellow.

Brief Answer:
May be it is due to ovulation or hormonal imbalanc

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Nice to hear from you again though.

If itching and odor not present it can not be due to infection but it can be due to ovulation or due to excess of estrogen hormone or hormonal imbalance.

You should affirm it with an ovulation - kit and see for the rise in basal body temperature. (in your case it is showing negative results).

If it is due to ovulation then the chances of pregnancy are more in your case.

But usually cervical mucus is much clearer and thin when it is fertile.

Hope it is useful, feel free to ask more.

Good luck.

Dr.Richa
