Brief Answer:
The bleeding most likely was from the Mirena removal

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and i hope I can help you today.

Bleeding after sex is not unusual after you have a procedure done on your uterus, which is why doctors generally recommend avoiding putting anything inside that vagina for a week or two. Your uterus may have been scratched slightly during the IUD removal, and the jostling during sex may have dislodged the scab.

Another possibility is that- even though you have a high FSH, that does not mean you are fully menopausal. The Mirena will keep you from bleeding at all as a side effect but that doesn't mean your period won't come back. There is no real way to know if you are in menopause until you naturally do not menstruate for one year. So you may find that you menstruate or spot every now and then. The hormones from the IUD are out of your system within 24 hours of removal. The good news is that with a high FSH at least you don't have to worry about contraception.

Either way there is nothing to worry about and I just suggest you wait a week before having intercourse (or using tampons or any product inside the vagina) to let the area heal better.

I hope I was able to answer your question today and that this information was reassuring. If you need anything further, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best wishes, Dr. Brown
