What Causes Absence Of Periods With Sudden Weight Gain?

default
Posted on Tue, 1 Sep 2015
Question: Good day, I am 49 years old and I think I may be menopausal. I missed this months period, but I had the premenstrual symptoms before and during the time it should have come, plus I feel bloated and have had a sudden weight gain of at least 4 kilos. Can you advise? My periods in the past have been ok, sometimes weak and sometimes stronger. Last month it came twice. I am using a contraception coil which omits Gestagen locally, this has made my periods weaker over the years. my mine concern is the sudden weight gain.

Brief Answer:
Can be due to decreased thyroid hormone levels,

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The absence of periods with a sudden weight gain at your age can be due to perimenopausal hormonal changes or due to a decrease in thyroid hormone levels.
Since you are having symptoms and are feeling bloated it is best to consult your gynecologist for a hormonal treatment to get a withdrawal bleeding and get your thyroid hormone levels evaluated.
