What Cause Increased Heart Rate?

Posted on Sat, 9 May 2015
Question: Hello

In the last week or so, I have on occasions been salivating with the sensation that I am going to be sick. Just had a piece of toast this morning and coffee and felt this again. I was salivating and immediately went outside for some fresh air - then the feeling went, This has never happened before but three times in a space of a week. I have felt increasingly tired over the last few months, have over the last year and a half suffered disorientation when driving on the motorway with a feeling of freezing up, heart rate increasing and world closing in on me - which has been dangerous. I am a primary school teacher and it has been rather stressful as of late, together with my 12 year old son going through puberty. This has made me question my health. I have just turned 49!

Can you shed any light?

Many thanks.

Brief Answer:
Panic Disorder

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for choosing health care magic for posting your query.
I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through.
The condition that you are having is basically panic attacks. This is a disorder of anxiety and occurs cause of imbalance of certain neurotransmitters in the brain. especially serotonin, nor adrenaline, and dopamine to some extent. Medicines are the best options to take care of these symptoms. Paroxetine is the the most popular medicine and my drug of choice. I generally prescribe my patients 12.5 mg per day at night which takes care of anxiety symptoms. Also certain medicines like propranolol and clonazepam can be give as required when there is a panic episode or expected situation where panic attack can appear.
Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.

Thank you Dr XXXXXXX XXXXXXX for your reply. I will take a trip to the doctors to see if she can prescribe something for the panic attacks.

Can I just ask about the recent episodes of feeling sick and salivating as of late. Does this have something to do with having panic attacks and the feeling tired quite frequently?

Thank you.
