What Are The Chances Of Pregnancy After Having Intercourse During Ovulation Period?

default
Posted on Tue, 5 Jan 2016
Question: Hi there, me and my partner had sex on the evening of the 6th of December and I had been experiencing cramps on the evening of the 5th which i believe to have been due to ovulation. I am on a 27 day cycle and my last period was on the 23rd November. I am not a sexually active person at all as this was my first time and i plan not to have sex in the future until i am fully ready. My partner had a condom on and the vaginal penetration lasted a minute or two without him penetrating all the way (tip only) as I was a virgin at that point and it hurt, so he kept having to stop and resorted mainly to anal sex. Again, this only lasted a few minutes as he had to stop due to pain. Also, he didn't ejaculate inside of me but on my back and i am certain that non of the ejaculate reached the vaginal opening. However, my problem is that he took the condom off half way through to carry out other sexual acts but stupidly put the same one back on. I am worried about the pre-ejaculate as he continued penetrating for about a minute after that. The event ended around 5:20pm and the very next day on the 7th at around 4:30pm, i took the morning after pill, Levonelle, just to be safe (within 24 hours). I definitely experienced nausea, headaches, tiredness and some cramps not long after taking the pill, up until now, a couple of days after. However, i am worried that because i took the pill AFTER ovulation that it might not have an effect. I have already spoke to my local GP and he assured me that the chances of pregnancy are very low but prescribed me the pill. In your opinion, what are the chances of me getting pregnant? What is the likelihood percentage if a woman has unprotected sex and her partner ejaculates inside, that she will get pregnant? When should I expect spotting/period? Your opinion would be extremely helpful as it will put my mind at ease as am trying not to be stressed everyday. Thank you!

Brief Answer:
Chances that you could get pregnant are less than 1%!

Detailed Answer:
HI and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this worry about a possible pregnancy. I have reviewed all what transpired and the medications. Chances of getting pregnant are very very slim and there is really no reason to get worried. I would be very surprised if it turns out that you are pregnant.

Your cycle might be messed up because of the Lovenelle pill. This should bother you because hormonal pills are known to cause problems of this nature. Be calm because everything is under control. Keep me posted on this.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be. Above all, thanks for using our services.

Hello Dr. Ditah,

Thank you so much for your swift response and your genuine concern. Your answer have definitely put my mind at ease and i sure won't be worrying as much as before!

I was also very concerned about this because it happened in the middle of my cycle, around my most fertile stage. Could you explain to me how the Levonelle works to prevent pregnancy after ovulation so i can understand more about the medicine?

Thank you once again!

Brief Answer:
See below!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and glad to know you are feeling a lot better.

True this happened about the most fertile period of your cycle. However, all the surrounding circumstances, condom use and lovenelle make it unlikely to be pregnant.

This drug acts by interring with the transport of the egg to the uterus therefore interfering with fertilization and implantation.

I hope this helps. I wish you well.

Hi Dr. Ditah,

Thank you for your reply.
Just a quick update on what effects i have been feeling after i took Levonelle.
I have been feeling nauseous, tired and headaches mainly. Sometimes, i will feel minor abdominal pains or feel like my period is about to take place. I have also noticed that the cervical mucus have thickened.
I am just wondering if this is a sign that the pill is working? I hope so!

Thank you!
