Question: Hello Doctor,

I have a 6 weeks old daughter whose next vaccine is due in this week. I would like to know the following:

A. Shall I go for painless DPT vaccine instead of painful one? Will that be effective in long run if I go for painless vaccine?

B. In case, I opt for painful DPT vaccine, what will be the side effects? How many days those side effects will be there?

C. What is PCV vaccine? Is there any side effects of this vaccine?

D. What is Rotavirus vaccine and also please let me know the side effects of this vaccine?

Waiting for your reply.

Regards,

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX .Coming to your queries one by one -

A. Shall I go for painless DPT vaccine instead of painful one? Will that be effective in long run if I go for painless vaccine?

As per IAP recommendations right now, it is better to go for painful vaccine itself as studies have shown that painful vaccine immunogenicity (effectiveness in prevention) is better than painless vaccine. What I am going is the XXXXXXX Academy Of Paediatrics recommendations 2013-14.

B. In case, I opt for painful DPT vaccine, what will be the side effects? How many days those side effects will be there?

The painful vaccine side effects will be fever, local pain and swelling and redness. But these can be intolerable in some kids and the kid will keep crying persistently. It is also known to cause some unresponsive episodes in some kids.

C. What is PCV vaccine? Is there any side effects of this vaccine?

PCV is for Pneumococcal disease and is highly recommended. Please do not miss it. It will prevent invasive pneumococcal disease.

D. What is Rotavirus vaccine and also please let me know the side effects of this vaccine?
Rota virus vaccine is given to prevent diarrhoea and mild diarrhoea might ensue. But it is not of concern when compared to the utility of the vaccine.

I wish your kid good health. If you need any future medical consultation and suggestions, I will be glad to help. You can approach me at the following link. Please find the link below.

Hello Doctor,

We have given our 6 weeks old daughter the painless Vaccines of DTP, HEPATITIS B, Hib, OPV, PNEUMOCOCCAL and ROTAVIRUS.

But she has running temperature of 100 from last evening. We had given her Crocin Drops (5 drops) yesterday. Again, today, it has been observed that she has again running temp. of 99.

My question is that how long and how many days this side effect will be there??

Brief Answer:
24-48 hours

Detailed Answer:
Hi...it might take 24-48 hours. But more than this is unusual. Till 48 hours you can wait and if its going to be more than 48 hours. I suggest you approach your pediatrician.
