Suggest Treatment For Nasal Bleeding

default
Posted on Mon, 27 Apr 2015
Question: Since last Wednesday I have been getting small nosebleeds. Suddenly my nose will run an when I wipe gently with a tissue there is blood. Mostly my left nostril. I do have an appointment next week but I am concerned as to what is causing it. Never had nosebleed as a kid. I do have a wicked sinus condition. Constant runny nose and Allegra or Zyrtek barely make a dent. Had rhinoplasty many years ago. My health is good in all respects. I may have bumped my nose some time ago. Have hade sinusitis before. Any ideas as to why this is happening. Did some yard cleaning yesterday and the temperature changed. Came in and hour later nosebleed. Happens almost 24 hr apart. I am 70 yrs. old. Thanks XXXX

Brief Answer:
Seems to be drug induced.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns that you having bleeding per nose. I would like to ask you few more details.

Are you on any cardiac medications (ecosprin) ?

Kindly get back to me with the details.

Based on your clinical details, it appears to be allergic rhinosinusitis or drug induced.

As such, allergic rhinosinusitis causes crusts, which on removal can lead to nasal bleeding.

I suggest you to to consult ent surgeon and give history (drugs) and detailed Ent examination ( rhinosinusitis). If necessary blood tests (PT/APTT/INR). Depending on the examination reports further treatment is required accordingly.

Meantime, do steam inhalation to clear secretions and to unclogg crusts. External ice packs in case of active bleeding.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.

Detailed Answer:

Hello again,

Thanks for considering my answer and for your follow up.

Looks like, your allergic rhinitis is the primary cause of bleeding. Anyways, follow the instructions, what I have already mentioned.

In case of active bleeding, you can try over the counter nasal spray Sudafed (pseudoephedrine) twice daily.

Hope, I have answered your query.

All the best.Take care.
