Suggest Treatment For Itching Sensation On Vagina With Discharge
Question: my 21 yrs old daughter had yeast infections in the past. But this time, she says it comes and goes and that only one side of vigina is itch. should i take her to see ObGYN for this or just give her the yeast infection med i have prescribed by MD
she didn't think this is yeast infection because itchness come and goes. also only one side. previously, it was all over and constant discomfort. can this happen under yeast infection disesase? or is it something very different. also, she never saw OBGYN. she insisted going to see one and i don't see why she has to go to OBGYN when she's only 21. thx

Any form of itching in the vagina with a discharge is usually a yeast infection , and it is apt to get a perspeculum examination done for a high vaginal swab smear for culture to confirmatively isolate the fungus or organism. Thereafter if the cause is fungal then antifungals can be prescribed , but if its a mixed infection then an antibacterial also needs to be added to the prescription.
So, it is suggested that a OBGYN evaluation is warranted before self diagnosis and medication.

okay, i'll take her to ObGYN. But in a meantime, since our insurance is HMO and that it will take a while for authoraztion to be supplied, i have a question.

Yes it is possible to be one sided during the initial phase of spread before yeast spreads and take the form of a thick curdy white discharge.
Though a local itch can might as well be due to local vaginal abrasion/lesion which is in the healing process.Also sometimes vaginitis per se can cause redness , dryness and itching locally and hence it is important to differentiate between them with an exam so that treatment can be directed correctly,
