Suggest Treatment For Fever, Cold And Slightly Raised ESR Levels
Question: hello ,
i am a 29 years old male , since this morning 4 Am i am having fever varying between 99.5 to 100.4 degree F
yesterday i had cold and running nose , i was ok till night before i slept , i woke up with fever this morning
i took dolo 650 at a gap of 6 hours and two doses are done by now . i underwent CBC, URINE ROUTINE , ESR IN CBC the lymphocyte count is within range but towards lower limit , ESR is 19 (normal is 00 to 09 ) , monocytes is 02 normal being 03 to 09 .
what does this difference indicate ?
can you help me in telling if we have cold does ESR go high ?
what about monocytes
i also have mld dry cough
what should i do to reduce fever . as i am already on paracetamol
next thing is i also got tested for HIV 1 and 2 screening which is negative .
my last encounter was on 12 july , not penetrative though and i m not sure about the HIV status of the partner .
kindly tell me is my test for HIV valid , usually after howmany days are HIV tests conclusive kindly help.
and what should be treatment for this i mean fever .
is it a symptom of acute HIV infection?

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. Possibly you are suffering from a viral infection. The variation in monocyte count is insignificant and does not indicate anything. The ESR is only slightly raised and that is due to the viral illness (cold) and is not a cause for concern.
If the temperature does not come down on paracetamol you can take Meftal-P (mefenamic acid) instead. Also use tepid sponging.
Getting tested for HIV is pointless unless you indulge in high risk behaviour (penetrative and involving transfer of body fluids). I do not think that this HIV status has anything to do with this fever. It is not a manifestation of acute HIV infection. A negative test result after 120 days of the exposure would be confirmatory (but I do not think that to be needed).
