Brief Answer:
BPE should be the cause.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX and welcome to HCM.
As an Urologist, I can understand your concern.
Your dad should be having an enlarged prostate gland ( BPE).
He'll need to get it examined by an urologist. He'll carry out certain tests to confirm the diagnosis and advise treatment.
At his age, prostate cancer needs to be ruled out.
He should take only one tablet of flowmax daily,if catheter's removed.
Surgery is not advisable at his age.
Tests to be done are:
1. urine routine and culture.
2. blood routine, creatinine, RBS,LFT,PSA and platelets.
3. ultrasound-KUB,with residual urine and TRUS.
According to these reports, expert opinion can be given.
You may send the reports here, for an expert opinion.
Leave the catheter,if he develops retention of urine.
Wish him well.
