Question: I was taking 4mg/day of doxozosin mesyl but had a few incidents of dizzyness during hard exercise. My urologist has tried me on flomax and rapaflo but had even worse side effects from them. Is Uraltrol similar or enough different that I should try it?

Brief Answer:
Uraltrol (Oxybutinine ) has no effect to lower blood pressure .

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query .

Based on the facts that you have posted you have hypertension and symptoms due to enlarged prostate and accordingly your Urologist has prescribed Rapaflow(Silodosin) and Flomax (Tomsulosin).

Both these drugs are Alpha Adrenergic Receptor blockers and have dual action of lowering blood pressure and improving urine flow by relaxing smooth muscles in prostate and bladder neck .

However normally only one of these drugs is being prescribed .

You may take only one of these drugs or consult qualified Physician for treatment of high blood pressure

As regards your query about Urotrol (Oxybutinine) prevents bladder spasms and hence being prescribed in urgency for urination and does not have anti hypertension action .

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.

Thanks for your detailed answer. I perhaps was not clear but am only taking one BPH drug at a time. I had been on just the 4mg of Doxzosin once daily for BPH. In the past, I tried flomax and just recently tried silodosin and had classic side effects of dizzyness and insomnia in both cases, so am returning to Doxzosin for BPH. The side effect of lowering my blood pressure so that I get light headed when standing up suddenly or doing hard exercise has only been a recent development, and my cardiologist has reacted by lowering my Lisonopril from 20mg to 10 and now to 5mg daily. I will ask my urologist to consider trying me on Uroltrol to see if that helps my BPH symptoms without the blood pressure side effect. I guess the last resort is the so called "rotorooter" procedure, but that seems pretty drastic. By the way, my PSA is 0.2 so my prostate enlargement is benign. Being retired and having less stress has helped lower my blood pressure, definitely. I suppose it is a question of finding the right balance between relaxing the smooth muscles in my prostate and those in my arteries.

Thanks again.

Urotrol will not hep to relieve your symptoms of BPH.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for follow up .

Urotrol will not help to lower your Blood Pressure .

You need to follow advice of your cardiologist .

The postural hypo tension or dizziness is the known side effect of Doxazocin or Flomax etc .

Thanks and Regards.
