Brief Answer:
Viral diarrhea don't worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi...Thank you for consulting in Health Care magic.

It seems your kid is having viral diarrhoea. Once it starts it will take 5-7 days to completely get better. Unless the kid's having low urine output or very dull or excessively sleepy or blood in motion or green bilious vomiting...you need not worry.

There is no need to use antibiotics unless there is blood in the motion. Antibiotics might worsen if unnecessarily used causing antibiotic associated diarrhoea.

I suggest you use Zinc supplements (Z&D drops 1ml once daily for 14 days) & ORS (Each small packet mixed in 200ml of potable water and keep giving sip by sip) as hydration is very important and crucial part of treatment. If there is vomiting you can use Syrup Ondansetron (as prescribed by your paediatrician).

For fever - Paracetamol can be given in the dose of 15mg/kg/dose (maximum ceiling dose of 500mg) every 4-6th hourly that too only if fever is more than 100 Degree F. I suggest not using combination medicines for fever, especially with Paracetamol.

Regarding diet - You can use cerelac...any flavour will do. Avoid fruit juices as they might aggravate diarrhea. You can give zinc supplements & ORS apart from normal vegetarian porridges & soups.

Hope my answer was helpful for you. I am happy to help any time. Further clarifications and consultations on Health care magic are welcome. If you do not have any clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer. Wish your kid good health.

Hi.

I went to clinic , dr said my son has slight throat infection and he said i can give him antibiotic (cefixine) i dont know what to be done, my son is not even taking food or drinking water or drinking milk , he is taking very less quantity , and the temprature goes when given fevadol and 6 to 8 hours later comes back and small quanity again and again motion to been seen. I gave him klavox whichvdr told me to give but then my second dr told me not to give as this will worsen the loose motion so i stopped immediately. Every dr has its own opinion that is why i consulted here to have better answer and treatment.

Brief Answer:
Please stop antibiotics - loose stools and fever will settle - seems viral

Detailed Answer:
Hi.... I understand your concern.

My suggestions -

1. Your son is not eating well because of the viral illness affecting his intestines. Once this sort of viral illness starts - it will take 7-10 days to settle down. Your doctor is right in telling that antibiotics like Amoxycillin will worsen the diarrhea. I too had opined the same in my first interaction.

2. I will explain you how a viral illness behaves in terms of fever so that you will feel more confident - Fever of few days without any localizing signs could as well a viral illness. Usually rather than fever, what is more important is the activity of the child, in between 2 fever episodes on the same day. If the kid is active and playing around when there is no fever, it is probably viral illness and it doesn't require antibiotics at all. Once viral fever comes it will there for 4-7 days. So do not worry about duration if the kid is active.

3. Please stop even Cefixime as it will not work for upper respiratory infections. Most of the upper respiratory infections (95%) are viral again and they do not require antibiotics.

4. Continue only zinc and ORS (if required).

Brief Answer:
He's crying out of pain in tummy - it's due to inflammation in intestines

Detailed Answer:
Hi....He's crying out of pain in tummy. It's due to inflammation in intestines. There are no any specific medicines for this. As I have suggested give only Zinc supplements for 14 days.

Unless the kid's having low urine output or very dull or excessively sleepy or blood in motion or green bilious vomiting...you need not worry.
