Questions and answers on "Zantac"

On Dec. 4 I was diagnosed with acid relux. For 6 weeks I took 40mg. of Protonix and 150mg Zantac 2x daily. At 8 weeks the doctor upped the protonix to 40 mg, 2x daily as my sinus symptons were still really bad. Now at 9 weeks my sinus pain is still severe. I have started an exercise plan, am careful with my diet, use nasal rinse as well as Dymista. I have had the severe sinus pain since XXXXXXX 2013 so obviously the diagnosis came 6 months after the acid backing in to my sinuses had been going on for quite some time. My docto tells me to stay the course and eventually the meds, diet and esercise will pay off. In the meantime my quality of life is poor as the pain is bad. After 8 months I really need help with this pain. I am hopeful that different, better meds, could be prescribed. Your thoughts please?

I was required to do an instant drug screen as part of a medical for a new job. The instant came back positive for meth, yet I have not used Meth! Or any other drug! I have taken Zantac for heartburn and this is the only medication I take. The doctor said it could be a 'false positive'. They have sent my sample off to the lab for further testing to obtain a definitive result. Will the lab test show that the result is from Zantac and not meth?
Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

Ranitidine (Zantac) is a histamine H2-receptor antagonist that reduces stomach acid production and you are regularly taking this medication. Ranitidine is also known to give false positives for methamphetamine on drug tests. It is clear that your urine meth test is...

I have pretty bad acid reflux and I take Zantac once or twice a day along with Gaviscon if I need it. I also try to avoid tomato and other foods that upset my stomach. I usually drink 3-5 12 ounce cans of coke a day and recently I've been trying to cut back. I had coffee last night and this morning I've had constant cramps and sharp pains. I'm not sure how to explain the pain but my stomach gets tight, crampy, and I have sharp pains that kind of sprawl out in certain spots. I'm concerned I might develop ulcers if I don't already have them. Is there a prescription that will help more than Zantac or Prilosec? I'm just wondering if it's worth it for me to go to a doctor.
Brief Answer:
its worth to consult surgeon

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to HealthcareMagic .

I suggest you to consult a surgeon and get endoscopy done. Endoscopy is needed as from long time you are having this problem and also by endoscopy the severity of reflux can be diagnosed.

Hi.Thanks for your query on HCM.
Zantac 150mg(ranitidine) given to treat acidity. This has nothing to do with your thyroids.Since your cousin has loss of weight/appetite and weakness he must be having high thyroid levels.
He requires a hormonal check(thyroid profile) and according the cause of...

I have had a bitter taste on my tongue for about 5 months. My doctor has been working with me using Zantac and Prilosec, but it doesn't help. It seems to come and go as it wants although it's mostly present. It comes usually after eating, but sometimes not; then will develop later on when I haven't eaten anything. I suppose it could be stress related or symptom of menopause (I'm 59), but it just doesn't seem to really be a reflux issue; I have no indigestion. Although taking the Zantac has caused some gas and burping that I never had before. I've changed my diet so many times trying to find the common denominator, but can't find anything that is consistent. Thank you,
Thank you for asking!
This bitter taste is a classic presentation of GERD, You need just not prilosec and zantac but a complete diet and lifestyle modifications to help it out.
following will help
Losing weight (if overweight)
Avoiding alcohol, chocolate, citrus juice, and tomato-based products...

I am a 35 year old, 5'7' female. I am currently 6 and a half weeks pregnant. I have had issues with esphogitis and gerd in the past along with ulcer. I was on Nexium and Zantac for this. When I found out I was pregnant, I was told to stop the Nexium but continue the Zantac. The other morning, I vomitted and brown specs were present. I have been having abdominal pain which my OB said was normal due to hormones. Now this morning, they are present but not as bad. And the bile was orange then brown. I am very afraid and any help would be appreciated. My OB ordered me Zofrain. But my main concern is of course the baby, but the bleeding of the ulcer. Will it stop?
Hello

You are currently 6 weeks pregnant. Nexium and Zantac both are both supposed to be safe during...

I currently take 60mg. of armour thyroid (no side effects, works) per day approximately the same time each day early in the morning. Unable to take synthyroid meds due to pain it causes in legs and feet. The prescription container label states, no food until an hour after taking the medication. 4 hours before or after thyroid medication in order to take any antacid medication. 4 hour wait also for any vitamins or mineral supplements.
Recently I notice after taking 150 mg of Zantac antacid pills on a daily basis for erosion of the esophagus, intense drying of my skin, putting on weight without changing my diet. Feeling sluggish, retaining fluids bowel movements that can be solid in morning, lose in the afternoon or vice a versa. Informing my gastro physician he says 1-2% have this reaction to antacids. As a test I stopped taking the Zantac for a few days and skin improved especially around the eyes. Tried other antacids, same affect. Doctor says lesser of two evils. Need to contain/heal erosion.. Could it be that it is also affecting my thyroid? I have a hypo condition.
Dear XXXXXXX
The only way it could be affecting your thyroid is by reducing the absorption of armour thyroid. This may warrant an increase in dosage of Armour thyroid if your TSH has been found to be out of range - I mean above the upper limit of normal. Othrr than that it wont affect your...
