Suggest Treatment For Conjunctivitis

default
Posted on Sat, 7 Feb 2015
Question: I have been dealing with conjunctivitis for about three weeks now. Initially, the doctor prescribed erythromycin and gave me a steroid shot. After a week of non-improvement, i went back and was prescibed an Allegra type allergy medication and polymyxin. I was told to use those in conjunction with the Visine-AC drops. It did look like it was healing but the redness will not go away. I feel dry eye sometimes and sometimes have been waking up with eye crust in the corners. I am beyond frustrated and would appreciate some advice. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Viral infections will usually take time to heal.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care Magic.

I reviewed your history and the previous questions you had asked to Health care Magic.
I can understand your concerns and the frustration. Usually severe types of conjunctivitis especially viral conjunctivitis will have a relatively long course and they do cause keratoconjunctivitis and dryness of the conjunctiva. As I had answered in my previous answer bacterial infections will have short course and heal within 1 week. In your case this looks like viral infection.

But not be worried as they will resolve and heal completely.
The treatment you are using in the form of antibiotics and Visine eye drops are in the right direction and this cure the condition. But only thing is this requires treatment for long time and this may take 1-2 months for complete relief.
Hope this is helpful to you.
Do write back to me for further questions.

Thank you
With regards
