Question: Hello, after a painful sexual intercourse I used triple ntibiotic ontment for some relief and I am having an alergic reaction with severe itching and burning on my genitals. I am female. I then used suppository for a vaginal yeast infection last night. Still severe burning and itching. Will this go away or do I need more medicl treatment with a doctor? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Need more treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,welcome to HCM forum.

Sorry to say that, what you have done, was not supposed to be.

Firstly, triple antibiotic creams are meant for application on skin-not on vaginal mucosa. Any person can have reaction when applied on mucosa.

Secondly, you should not have applied a suppository on such an irritated mucosa-this will only aggravate the situation.

Anyhow,forget about that-avoid future mishaps.

Now you have a highly irritated vaginal mucosa. This will resolve on its own in few days without any local ointment application. But, as the area is prone for secondary bacterial infection, we need to give support with oral antibiotics for 5-7 days. Also, burning and itching can be managed with anti inflammatory agents and anti-histamines. This will also speed up recovery by reducing local secretion and inflammation.
Kindly see your doctor for prescription of antibiotics.
Meanwhile, keep the area as clean as possible.
Avoid intercourse till full recovery.

Hope this will answer your query.
Wishing for a faster recovery.
Thank you.

Thank you so much Doctor. I learned a painful lesson. I don't have the money for a office visit, can I use what I have in terms of an antibioti? I have Penicillin, not expired, 500 mg. And I also have Doxycycl Hyc 100 mg cap, which is best?

Brief Answer:
Not a good choice.

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,

Sorry to say that neither penicillin nor doxycycline is a good choice in this situation.
If I was your treating doctor,I would suggest a combination of quinolone(like nirfloxacin) and metronidazole or cefixime along with analgesics and antihistamines.
Kindly note that, all these drugs needs a direct physical examination and vital recordings before prescription. So it will be fine if you could see your doctor.

Take care,
Thank you.
