Suggest Treatment For Bacterial Vaginosis

default
Posted on Thu, 9 Nov 2017
Question: HI, I'm a 40 yr old who underwent an embolization for fibroids 2 years ago. Since then I've experienced cases of bacterial vaginosis and now breakthrough bleeding before my period. I've been on birth control to help regulate my period. My partner is frustrated because of the infections and I'm frustrated as well. Seems as the BV comes after intercourse. He's been tested and so have I and always negative for std's. Now the breakthrough bleeding and I'm super frustrated and depressed. Have an appointment tomorrow as well. It's just really embarrassing. Any insight is appreciated.

Brief Answer:
Metronidazole and oral contraceptives

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand the concerns.
Recurrent vaginosis and breakthrough bleeding are the side effect of the uterine artery embolization.
For vaginosis, you need to take 14 days course of metronidazole and lactobacillus bacteria.
For breakthrough bleeding, hormonal treatment by oral contraceptives is advised.
Hope you found the answer helpful.

Thanks so much. This helps. Is brownish discharge along with some cramping also common after an embolization. It’s been two years since I’ve had it and the breakthrough bleeding and brownish discharge is new. But the BV has been recurrent since the embolization. I appreciate you’re advice, kind of wish I had underwent a hysterectomy instead :(

Hi dear, I am happy to have helped you.

Recurrent bacterial vaginosis, brown discharge, cramping and irregular periods are common after uterine artery embolization.
