Suggest Treatment For Anxiety And Depression

default
Posted on Fri, 19 Sep 2014
Question: Hello, Dr. Grief. I'm XXXXXXX 67. I think I may have senile dementia. My ex-husband thinks I may be bi-polar. I need a resource center to read up on these conditions.
Symptoms: depression for which I take Fluoxetine. Insomnia for which I take Unisom or Lorazepan (spelling?)
On Tuesday, after 26 hours of insomnia, I had a crying fit at Mass, I was very selfish with our pastor, asking for an immediate talk, I was really unreasonable for hours. When I went out to the garage today, I found I had left the garage doors wide open. I never lock the kitchen door because I fear being locked out, without keys or phone. So anyone could have come in. I saw a psychiatrist's assistant who can prescribe medication last February, and stopped both prescriptions by April. She diagnosed me as suffering from anxiety rather than depression. Please give me any guidance you can offer me.

This is in reply to Dr. Prajapati's questions.
Psychiatrists in XXXXXXX are not taking on new patients. Some only see hospitalized patients. I saw a physician's prescribing assistant in January, February, and March this year. She thought I had anxiety and maybe some depression.
The pills I'm taking were prescribed by my regular family physician who is an internist.
I will try to get an appointment with a psychiatrist. Thanks. XXXXXXX
