Question: Hi,
I have major PMS symptoms around the week before I start my period, I get depression, anxiety, overwhelmed, headaches, teary eyed, bloating, irritability, and mood swings. Symptoms seem to relieve quite a bit once I start menstruation. How can I tell if I have something called PMDD or just regular PMS, and what can I do to relieve symptoms?

Brief Answer:
PMS symptoms

Detailed Answer:
hello,
Thanks for the query to hcm,
PMDD is actually an extension of PMS. In both PMDD and PMS, symptoms usually begin seven to 10 days before your period starts and continue for the first few days that you have your period. Both PMDD and PMS may also cause bloating, breast tenderness, fatigue, and changes in sleep and eating habits. In PMDD, however, at least one of these emotional and behavioral symptoms stands out:
Sadness or hopelessness
Anxiety or tension
Extreme moodiness
Marked irritability or anger.
The symptoms are not usually relieved in PMDD without medications which is not the case with you, where symptoms relieve with onset of menses. So you are a case of PMS which can be easily tackled by adopting life style changes and proper diet.
Regular exercise often reduces premenstrual symptoms. Cutting back caffeine can help reduce anxiety and irritability. Eating carbohydrates — in small, more frequent meals — may help reduce the severity of mood symptoms. Also, try to avoid emotional triggers, such as arguments over financial issues or relationship problems, if possible.
If pain exists in lower abdomen which can be nagging , NSAIDS may be used SOS for the same and over next few months you shall realise that the symptoms have reduced on their own.
