Question: i recently saw an infectious doctor here she drew new labs and i have attached them to you, she labeled me with chronic ebv said there was no cure and said i could check with someone speacilizing in chronic fatigue. Another doctor said I have nothing to worry about on the ebv he said everyone has that and i just need hormoral therapy treatment, I also attached my last thyroid and hormone labs. Do you have any opinion? Do you thing the ebv is anything to worry about or is just hormoral deficency?

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear XXXX,

I have reviewed all your report.

Yes I agree with your first Doctor stating that you have chronic Epstein Barr virus infection. There is no treatment for it. You can only consult to chronic fatigue disease specialist they can help you.

You do not have any hormonal abonormality, all your reports are normal and there is nothing abnormal.

You can ask me for further clarification.

Please find answer below

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear XXXX,

EBV or Epstein Barr virus infection causes variety of the disease.

In its mild form it can cause glandular fever or infectious mono nucleosis or kissing disease is caused by this virus. It is spread by droplets of the saliva. Virus can grown in B- lymphocyte and in epithelium cells of the pharynx and larynx. This infections is self limited and can be cured without any treatment.

Only some cases can convert in to the chronic one as you are having. in such cases prognosis is poor. Antiviral treatment even wont respond.

It can cause variety of other disease some of this I am mentioning below.

Infectious mononucleosis
Burkitt's lymphoma
Hodgkin's disease
Nasopharyngeal carcinoma
Hepatitis(Epstein-Barr virus)
Duncan's syndrome

Burkitt's lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, Nasopharyngeal carcinoma are the type of malignancy which is caused by the chronic EBV infection.

You can ask me further details here.

Thank you,
Dr Arun Tank
