Question: good evening I cut my finger several days ago and have dressed it and cleaned it out with antibiotic ointment... But today I didn't like the look of it.. I've tried to attach a photo I hope it works.. I also have an artificial heart valve and I want to avoid any systemic infection. do I need to go in and get this looked at?

Brief Answer:
Better to have a course of antibiotic.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM

I have gone through your query and picture. The wound looks clean. It is better to have a course of antibiotic and proper wound dressing. Antibiotics like Amoxycillin will be enough for this. You can ask your GP for this. Dressing with betadine will be helpful. Because it is on the joint part of digit it might take little longer to heal. Taking vitamin C daily is also good to enhance healing.

Let me know if anything not clear.
I am happy to help you.
Thanks.

thank you for your response! I just need to know if I need to get into the doctor's office right now or if I can wait for the morning. there is no redness around this wound what the temperature is slightly elevated.. Obviously some inflammation.. I'm allergic to amoxicillin.. But I have some clidamycin...150 mg on hand.. Can I wait till tomorrow to get it looked at? Thanks again.

Brief Answer:
You can wait till tomorrow.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome again.

Thank you for your follow up query.

You can wait till tomorrow. Clindamycin might cause more bowel upset. Erythromycin or Azithromycin will suitable to take. Keep the wound clean and covered. You can use povidone iodine ointment for application.
If there is any fever or more swelling or pain in the wound then you should consult your doctor faster as possible.
