Suffering From Bulimia. On Prozac. Not Getting Cured. Looking For Permanent And Effective Cure?

Question: Hi, I'm a 44yr old woman and I've had bulimia since I was 18, so 26yrs!!! I've also been on Prozac that amount of time. I've tried everything to be rid of this disease including going into a rehab for 6wks, cbt, loads of counceling, acupuncture, hypnotherapy etc etc.....this now has nothing to do with past problems, I've dissected them thoroughly....it is now merely a habit I cannot break.....I've read a lot of good reports on adderall xr and my doctor agrees with me that, that drug would be good for me now to just curb my hunger and repetitive pattern. But I am in the uk and he can't get it here for me...I've tried to get it online but people keep trying to scam me...my doctor has said he would happily monitor me if I was able to purchase it. Please will you help me, I do not want to have this awful disease any longer....can you please help me obtain adderall xr? XXXXXX

I can sense the level of desperation for your suffering for a long period.

Adderall xr contains Amphetamine and Dexamphetamine, which are schedule H drug.

This means this drug will only be made available by a valid genuine prescription by a registered doctor with his registration number mentioned on the prescription slip. Whoever buy (other than prescription) they buy by illegal means.

Because these drugs are addictive, not very safe drug, have many unwanted side effects, hence this restriction.

So far as my knowledge goes, research evidence wise, this drug may not be very efficacious in bulimia.

Thank you for your reply and yes I do understand, but my point is my doctor, even though he is willing, cannot do me that prescription here because uk doesn't supply it. So if my doctor does me the prescription with his registration number and I forward it to you, will you supply it please? I appreciate the side effects etc, as I have read up a lot of information about it, but what has 26 years of bulimia done to me? Please help me, I have been through so many years with it, I don't want to go through another 26!! I literally have tried everything and I'm not depressed or down it is JUST a long standing habit now. I have been in contact with other women like myself, who have had bulimia for a long period and their doctors ave prescribed them that and it has practically stopped overnight(just because I'm in the UK, my doctor can't)....I need a drug(NOT MORE THERAPY) to take my appetite and reoccurring behaviour pattern to break the years of misery. I have tried strattera which I got online, but that didn't work for me and I know it doesn't have the same effects as adderall. Please, please help me, I am not a teenager with problems, I am a happily newly wed grown woman with a teenage son of my own and I just need a break, so I can be lucky enough to live the rest of my life without this delimitating disease holding me back. Please give me the chance or at least an option of where I could get it myself, or even drug that has the same strength effect? Regards XXXXXX

I do understand and empathize for your issues.

It seems very clear that you are not entertaining any possibility of therapy or other drugs and you are persisting with Adderal.

What about the idea of contacting the direct manufacturer and getting it by Post / VPP ( as online buying facility may not be there with the manufacturer company ).

Humbly, it won't be possible for me to send it, as it would be an offense for me and I can be persecuted. Hope you can understand my difficulty. I am afraid.

Alternatively, methylphenidate can be of some similar effect, but procuring it might invite similar troubles, though to a smaller extent.

Many many thanks, you have given me some hope.
I can get both Ritalin and concerta online and wanted to know which you thought would be the best option(the greatest food suppressant)to help stop my bulimia? I have, over the years, paid out 1000's of pounds to try and stop my bulimia, so obviously I want to try and get the right drug now? Could you please advise which one? How long it may take to start taking effect and also the dose I should take please?

Methyl phenidate is available in 10, 20 mg formulation, different brands have different strengths. Usual dose is to start slow and increase the dose gradually. Do not take the dose beyond evening as it can cause insomnia. It may take few weeks to take its effect. But, remember, loss of appetite is a side effect of the molecule this does not mean that this will be effective in Bulimia. It is your wish and you are the best judge.

But you still haven't really answered my question. Which methylphenidate option would be best to possibly help my condition, as there are quite a few of them categorised?

Both the brands are standard and no thing to choose amongst them. But, among various preparations sustained release form of either brand has better side effect profile.

Sorry, i didnt really understand that reply. Could you explain further? Also if I choose Ritalin, do I get the The generic or novartis one, I don't understand the difference or which one I should get? Apologies for the ongoing questions, but this will be a huge turn around in my life if it helps me, so i need to get everything correct? XXXXXX

You can go for Ritalin XR (i.e sustained release form). The reason is Ritalin XR has better side effect profile than Ritalin.
