Hi Doctor,
My wife is 6 weeks pregnant and our doctor prescribed my wife to take Neogest 200 mg twice a day via oral and also asked her to take an Ultra Sound. Does taking Neogest and Ultrasound in the 6th week itself affects our baby?. Please guide us...

She is 26 and its our first baby and we are from India.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
Congratulations on your pregnancy !
Neogest contains progesterone which supports the growing pregnancy.
It is absolutely alright to take it in the dose prescribed to you.
Also, ultrasound anytime during pregnancy is absolutely safe, do not worry.
Please go ahead with the treatment as advised to you.\
Take care, and please feel free to ask any further questions.

Brief Answer:

Detailed Answer:
1. During pregnancy, you need more calories over and above the normal diet. Make sure she is taking regular folic acid supplements, moderate daily walking also is good 2. Have plenty of whole wheat, whole grain breads, brown rice, barley etc. Avoid white bread, pizza, pasta, processed foods, and eating outside. Stick to simple, light, nutritious and hot home made meals.
3. Have small, frequent meals at 2 - 3 hourly intervals, instead of trying to eat too much once.
4. Include lots of fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables in diet. Whole fruits are better than fruit juices as they provide fibre and avoid constipation.
5. Have plenty of protein XXXXXXX foods - egg white, paneer, tofu, fish, chicken, dry fruits, nuts such as walnuts, almonds etc.
6. Have two glasses of milk a day, cheese etc as they provide requisite calcium.
7. Drink atleast 8 - 10 glasses of water daily.
